WhatsApp introduces audio & video calling on web version

California (Web Desk): WhatsApp has finally introduced audio and video calling on its web version, a feature that users have been requesting for a long time. Until now, WhatsApp users could make audio and video calls only on mobile devices, as well as on Windows and Mac desktop apps, leaving the web version without this capability.

According to a report by WABetaInfo, the new feature is currently available to a limited beta group of users on WhatsApp Web.

The update allows users to make one-on-one audio and video calls directly from their web browsers, complete with end-to-end encryption for secure communication. Additionally, the feature includes screen sharing, which is a significant enhancement for users who rely on WhatsApp Web for professional or collaborative purposes.

The implementation of this feature means that even web calls are protected using the Signal Protocol, the same encryption technology WhatsApp has been using since 2016.

This ensures that conversations remain private and secure, maintaining the platform’s long-standing commitment to user privacy.

While the feature is currently limited to a small number of beta testers, it is expected to be rolled out to all web users in the near future. Once fully launched, it will bring the web experience closer to parity with mobile apps, allowing users to make secure, high-quality calls without needing to switch to their phones.

With this update, WhatsApp Web becomes a more robust platform for both casual and professional users, bridging the gap between desktop convenience and mobile functionality.
