Death toll from Israeli aggression on Gaza exceeds 72,000

Gaza City (Web Desk / Agencies): The humanitarian toll from Israel’s aggression in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023 has continued to mount, with the overall death toll now standing at 72,045 and the number of injured reaching 171,686.

In its latest update issued Wednesday, the Gaza Ministry of Health reported that five bodies were brought to hospitals across the enclave in the past 24 hours.

Among them were three victims whose remains were recovered from beneath the rubble of destroyed buildings. During the same period, 20 wounded individuals were admitted for medical treatment.

Health authorities stressed that many casualties are still believed to be trapped under collapsed structures or lying in areas that emergency teams have been unable to access.

Ambulance and civil defense crews are facing serious challenges in reaching several affected locations.

The ministry added that since the ceasefire came into effect in October, 591 people have lost their lives and 1,578 others have been injured. It also confirmed that 720 bodies have been pulled from the debris since the truce began.

The ceasefire between Hamas and Israel took effect on October 10 after Israeli forces withdrew from certain positions and residential neighbourhoods in Gaza.

The agreement paved the way for displaced families to begin returning to the northern parts of the territory and formed the first phase of an initiative put forward by US President Donald Trump aimed at ending the war in Gaza.
