Islamabad (Web Desk): President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday approved a series of judicial appointments and related decisions involving the country’s high courts and the Supreme Court (SC).

According to a statement released by the President House, the president approved appointment of additional judges to the Lahore High Court (LHC), Sindh High Court (SHC), Peshawar High Court (PHC), Islamabad High Court (IHC) and Balochistan High Court (BHC).

He also endorsed the elevation of a number of additional judges serving in the LHC and SHC to the status of permanent judges.

In a separate move, President Zardari approved a proposal to equalise the salaries, allowances and pension benefits of SC judges with those available to judges of the Federal Constitutional Court.

The president also sanctioned amendments to the 1997 Order governing the leave entitlements, pensions and other privileges of high court judges.

Meanwhile, in another decision, President Zardari approved the appointment of Haroon Akhtar as Adviser to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production.
