Lebanese PM Nawaf Salam postpones UN, US visits

Beirut  (Web Desk): Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has announced the postponement of his planned visits to the United Nations (UN) and the United States (US).

In his statement, he said the decision was taken due to internal conditions in the country. He added that he will remain in Beirut to monitor public safety and oversee government affairs.

Meanwhile, Lebanon has confirmed that it will participate in upcoming ceasefire talks scheduled to be held in Washington next week, where discussions are expected with U.S. and Israeli representatives on a possible truce.

According to a senior Lebanese official, the exact date of the meeting has not yet been finalized.

However, Lebanon’s position remains clear that an immediate ceasefire is a basic requirement for any broader agreement.

The official added that Lebanon is seeking a halt in hostilities first in order to reduce regional tensions and create a conducive environment for political and security negotiations.

This development comes at a time when Iran and the United States are holding talks in Islamabad aimed at achieving long-term peace in the Middle East.
