US to deploy up to 200 troops to monitor Gaza ceasefire, reveals American newspaper report

Washington (Web Desk): The United States (US) is preparing to deploy as many as 200 troops to help oversee the Gaza ceasefire and back a stabilization effort in the region, USA Today reported Thursday, quoting US officials familiar with the matter.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that up to 200 personnel already stationed under the US Central Command (CENTCOM) would be assigned to monitor the peace deal in Israel.

She added that they would coordinate with other international contingents on-site to ensure compliance with the ceasefire terms.

According to officials, these US troops will remain stationed in Israel and nearby countries, serving as neutral observers to detect potential breaches of the truce.

The report clarified that no American soldiers are expected to enter Gaza itself, which has endured two years of relentless Israeli bombardments.

The conflict has claimed more than 66,000 Palestinian lives—most of them women and children—while thousands more have been injured.

With widespread displacement and famine-like conditions, many families in Gaza continue to seek refuge in overcrowded shelters.

A senior US official indicated that CENTCOM would primarily supervise a joint task force composed of Egyptian, Qatari, Turkish, and Emirati forces, ensuring coordination with the Israeli Defence Forces currently stationed in the enclave.

Planning for the deployment was still underway as of October 9, when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet formally endorsed the initial phase of a peace initiative proposed by US President Donald Trump.
