Islamabad/ Rawalpindi (Web Desk): Following the announcement of a protest rally by a religious group, strict security measures have been put in place in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, with several entry and exit points of the twin cities sealed off.
Portions of the Lahore–Islamabad Motorway and GT Road have also been partially closed, while the Orange Line Metro Train service in Lahore has been temporarily suspended.
The Punjab Home Department has imposed Section 144 across the province for ten days, banning gatherings of four or more people in public places, streets, and open areas. However, the restriction will not apply to prayers, weddings, funerals, offices, or courts.
Additionally, a complete ban has been enforced on the public display of weapons throughout the province.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has approved the suspension of mobile internet services in Islamabad and Rawalpindi for an indefinite period as a security precaution.
The suspension took effect from midnight, and a formal directive in this regard has been issued to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
All traffic on the Lahore–Islamabad Motorway has been halted, and entry points into Islamabad via the motorway have been sealed. Several sections of GT Road, including those near Muridke, Chenab Nagar, Gujrat, Jhelum Bridge, and Chakwal Mor, have also been closed. In Gujranwala, GT Road and other key routes are similarly blocked.
In Islamabad, multiple routes have been closed for security reasons, and the city’s traffic police have issued a detailed diversion plan to guide commuters through alternate roads.
The suspension of Metro Bus and electric bus services has caused significant inconvenience for students and daily commuters.
The Islamabad Traffic Police have announced a ban on the entry of heavy vehicles into the city on October 10. Traffic from the Faizabad area will be diverted to alternate routes to maintain smooth flow.
Law enforcement agencies are maintaining close surveillance of the situation through aerial monitoring and other means to ensure complete control and prevent any untoward incidents.
