Washington (Web Desk/Agencies): Donald Trump warned on Wednesday that the United States could carry out powerful military action against Iran if a peace agreement is not reached, while also claiming that Washington has been extracting oil from the country.
Addressing reporters at the White House, he linked the possibility of strikes to tensions in the region and the reported incident involving an Apache helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz. He stated that Iran could face attacks on Wednesday if the situation escalates further.
He also made a separate claim regarding oil operations, saying that the United States has been removing significant quantities of Iranian oil without interruption. In his words, “We’re going to be attacking them, attacking them very hard,” as he doubled down on his warning of strong action if diplomacy fails.
Explaining further, he said, “I’m just announcing today for the first time, but we’ve been taking out millions of barrels of oil, millions of barrels every night,” suggesting that these activities had been ongoing for some time before being detected. He added that Iran had only recently realized what was happening.
He further connected the situation to global energy prices, stating, "Millions of barrels of oil has come out, and that’s why it’s at $85-90 a barrel, instead of $250," though he did not provide additional details about how these operations were being carried out.
Despite his aggressive remarks, he still pointed to the possibility of diplomacy, saying, "We want a deal that is meaningful, we want a deal that works," and emphasizing that discussions with Iran remain ongoing.
He also claimed that Iran has already agreed in principle not to pursue nuclear weapons, although he said a formal agreement still needs to be finalized and signed.
