6.0 magnitude earthquake strikes east of Russia's Islands region

Moscow (Web Desk): A moderate earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale struck the eastern part of Russia’s remote Kuril Islands on Saturday morning. The quake occurred at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers, according to official sources.

Russian media reported that the tremor was felt during morning hours, and its occurrence was confirmed by both the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and the Russian Seismological Center.

So far, no casualties or property damage have been reported. However, survey teams have been dispatched to the affected areas to assess any possible impact.

Authorities stated that there is no tsunami threat following the earthquake. As a precautionary measure, local residents have been placed on alert, and emergency services remain on standby.

It is worth noting that the Kuril Islands are located in a seismically active region where the movement of tectonic plates frequently results in earthquakes and geological activity.
