Madar-e-Millat Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah remembered on 58th death anniversary

Karachi (Web Desk): The 58th death anniversary of Fatima Jinnah, widely known as Madar-e-Millat, is being commemorated across Pakistan today, marked by deep reverence for her lifelong dedication to the Pakistan Movement and the promotion of democratic values.

Fatima Jinnah was born on July 31, 1893, in Karachi. At a time when few Muslim women had access to higher education, she earned a degree in dentistry and began a professional career in the field.

However, her most enduring contributions came through her political engagement. She stood beside her brother, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, as a steadfast companion and trusted confidante, playing an influential role during the struggle for independence.

Her efforts to mobilize women during the Pakistan Movement proved vital in broadening public participation in the cause. Even after the country gained independence in 1947, she remained active in the national political sphere and became a vocal supporter of democratic governance.

In 1965, Fatima Jinnah entered the presidential race against the then-military ruler, Ayub Khan. Her decision to challenge a dictatorship turned her into a symbol of resistance and galvanized pro-democracy sentiments across the nation.

She passed away on July 9, 1967, in Karachi. Decades later, her legacy continues to inspire Pakistanis, particularly for her courage, leadership, and unyielding belief in democratic principles.
