Iranian President Pezeshkian says Tehran will continue resistance until 'aggressors' regret attacks

Tehran (Web Desk): Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Tuesday that Tehran would maintain its resistance against attacks until the parties he described as “aggressors” came to regret their actions.

“Iran has always opposed war and has regarded avoiding warmongering as essential to safeguarding the interests of the people and regional security,” Pezeshkian said on the US social media company X.

“But just as it has bravely defended itself against aggression until today, it will continue this resistance with strength until the aggressors fully regret it, and will safeguard the rights of the great Iranian nation,” he added.

جمهوری اسلامی ایران همواره با جنگ مخالف بوده و حفظ منافع مردم و امنیت منطقه را در پرهیز از آتش افروزی دانسته است. اما چنانکه تا امروز در برابر تجاوز، دلیرانه به دفاع برخاسته است این مقاومت را تا پشیمانی کامل متجاوزان با قوت ادامه خواهد داد و پاسدار حقوق ملت بزرگ ایران خواهد بود.

Pezeshkian made the remarks as the confrontation between Iran and the United States continued, while tensions remained elevated in different parts of the region.

In June, Iran and the US reached a memorandum of understanding after Pakistan and Qatar helped mediate between the two sides. The understanding called for an end to hostilities and provided a basis for further diplomatic negotiations.

Tehran, however, has accused Washington of breaking the memorandum and not fulfilling its agreed responsibilities. Iranian authorities have also maintained that US military actions and the naval blockade need to be brought to an end before tensions can be reduced.

Earlier on Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi discussed the situation with Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi during a telephone conversation.

He said that if Washington returned to the commitments it made under the Islamabad memorandum, it could create conditions for easing tensions.

Araghchi also said Iran and Oman had achieved considerable progress in discussions over the creation of a temporary transit passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
