Islamabad (Web Desk): The Pakistan Air Force observed Martyrs’ Day on 7th Sunday (September 7) with reverence at all of its bases across the country.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the day commenced with Quran Khawani and special prayers dedicated to those who embraced martyrdom during the wars of 1965 and 1971, as well as all who have sacrificed their lives in the defence of Pakistan since its establishment.
A central ceremony was organized at Air Headquarters in Islamabad where Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, attended as the chief guest.
Addressing the ceremony, the air chief highlighted the legacy of sacrifice, courage, and professionalism that has always defined the Pakistan Air Force.
He remarked that the commemoration of Martyrs’ Day reflects the exceptional bravery and spirit of selflessness shown by the armed forces of the country.
The air chief also stated that while remaining mindful of rapidly changing security dynamics, the PAF continues to pursue its mission with absolute resolve.
Referring to the recent success in Marka-e-Haq / Bunyan-um-Marsoos, he said this accomplishment once again demonstrated the Air Force’s strength and readiness to defend Pakistan’s aerial boundaries.
Paying homage to the martyrs, the Air Chief said that the nation owes them everlasting gratitude for their ultimate sacrifices, which remain a guiding light for future generations.
He added that on this day, heartfelt tributes are offered to those who laid down their lives for the motherland.
Expressing solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), he reiterated support for their just and indigenous struggle for the right to self-determination.
Concluding his remarks, the Air Chief emphasized his resolve to strive for the advancement and prosperity of Pakistan amid evolving global challenges. He assured that the Pakistan Air Force would remain focused on strengthening its capabilities in space, electronic warfare, cyber technology, specialized domains and indigenous defence production to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Later, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu laid a floral wreath at the Martyrs’ Monument and offered Fateha for the departed souls in tribute to the fallen heroes.
In special messages on the PAF Day, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded the Pakistan Air Force for its vital role in safeguarding the country’s skies and defending national sovereignty.
Marking Pakistan Air Force Day, President Zardari paid homage to the courage and sacrifices of PAF personnel during the 1965 war, saying the occasion was not only about recalling historic victories but also about celebrating the enduring spirit of service that characterizes the force.
He expressed heartfelt respect for the martyrs and ghazis whose bravery continues to inspire the nation, noting that PAF pilots, despite heavy odds in 1965, displayed exceptional determination and wrote a glorious chapter of heroism.
The president said that whether in the 1965 war or in more recent operations such as Marka-e-Haq Bunyan-um-Marsoos, PAF warriors had always stood tall, responding decisively to the enemy and filling the nation with pride.
He remarked that the world has witnessed their unmatched professionalism, adding that the PAF’s modern capabilities remain one of the strongest assurances of Pakistan’s defense.
Expressing confidence in the force, he said it will continue to guard the country’s skies with the same passion and commitment as always.
In his message, PM Shehbaz also lauded the PAF for demonstrating professionalism and strength in aerial battles over the decades.
He said the force, along with the armed forces, played a decisive role in Marka-e-Haq and that celebrating this day is meant to remind future generations of the determination, sacrifice and dedication with which the air force has always protected the nation.
