Pakistan observes Navy Day to honour 1965 war heroes 

Karachi (Web Desk): Pakistan Navy Day is being marked today across the country as a tribute to the valiant sailors and officers who defended the homeland during the 1965 war, confronting a much larger enemy with extraordinary courage and ultimate sacrifice.

The day recalls the historic Operation Somnath, when Pakistan Navy ships carried out a daring offensive on key enemy installations along the coast, inflicting heavy damage.

The 1965 War also saw the deployment of submarine PNSM Ghazi, which stood as a powerful symbol of naval strength and deterred hostile designs against Pakistan.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded the Navy’s heroism, professionalism, and role in safeguarding the country.

In their Navy Day messages on Monday, the president and the premier particularly remembered Operation Somnath, which demonstrated Pakistan Navy’s determination by striking the Indian port of Dwarka.

President Zardari underlined the Navy’s transformation into a modern and versatile force that remains vigilant along Pakistan’s shores.

He saluted the sacrifices of the martyrs and the resolve of the ghazis, expressing faith that the Navy would continue to protect maritime boundaries and promote regional stability.

PM Shehbaz, while highlighting the Navy’s more recent achievement in Operation Marka-e-Haq, emphasized that its contributions extend beyond defense.

He pointed to the force’s efforts in strengthening the blue economy, supporting port infrastructure, and delivering humanitarian assistance.

According to him, the Navy’s commitment to safeguarding sea lines of communication and aiding disaster-hit communities has elevated Pakistan’s standing internationally.

Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, in his message, acknowledged the Navy’s preparedness, resilience, and dedication to protecting maritime interests and ensuring unhindered trade.

He said the service is actively harnessing the potential of the country’s blue economy to generate sustainable economic growth and national prosperity.

Admiral Ashraf further announced that the second Pakistan International Maritime Exhibition and Conference is scheduled to take place in Karachi from November 3 to 6.

Meannwhile, to mark the Day, Pakistan Navy has released a special video showcasing its spirit of bravery, commitment, and constant vigilance.

The video highlights the Navy’s role in Marka-e-Haq, underlining its strong presence at sea and its watchful eye on the adversary from every direction.

It stands as a testament to the force’s unshakable determination and remarkable courage.
