Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 1,256,233 on Friday after 912 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.
Overall 462,155 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 435,040 in Punjab, 175,358 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 33,040 in Balochistan, 105,983 in Islamabad 10,341 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 34,316 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 45,619 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 1.9%.
According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 28,058 with 26 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.
Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,184,527 after another 1,633 virus recoveries were reported.
Meanwhile, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on National Health Services Dr Faisal Sultan on Friday said that a campaign has been started in schools for vaccination of children aged 12 and above against coronavirus.
Briefing the media persons in Islamabad, he said that mobile teams will be visiting the educational institutions for this purpose.
“Saturday has been fixed for the vaccination of the children in schools. Similarly, the last weeks of October and November have been fixed for the vaccination of students in their institutions, ” the SAPM said.
He once again made it clear that the approved vaccines were safe, hence, the parents should not hesitate from getting their children vaccinated.
“This is important not only to ensure their uninterrupted studies but also take the country towards normalcy,” Dr Faisal said.
He said that complete vaccination of children aged twelve and above by 30th November has been made mandatory.
Dr Faisal Sultan said the decision of allowing the schools to resume normal classes from Monday has been taken in view of decrease in COVID-19 cases.
He expressed satisfaction that the vaccination campaign was moving forward smoothly.
The SAPM said that about 63 million people had so far been fully or partially vaccinated.
It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 237.581 million and death toll tops 4,849,802.
