Humanitarian disaster worsens in Gaza after 2 years of Israeli military action

Gaza  (Web Desk): Despite Israel's repeated claims of acting in self-defense, airstrikes and military assaults continue across the Gaza Strip. In the past 24 hours alone, 38 more Palestinians have been killed, and dozens have been injured.

 According to reports, several civilians were shot while attempting to obtain food, and Israeli forces have sealed off the main route in Gaza City, forcing Palestinians to move south.

The ongoing war began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas-led Palestinian fighters launched a large-scale attack on Israel's borders under the name “Al-Aqsa Flood.” They breached border communities and took 251 Israeli hostages. In retaliation, Israel launched a massive military campaign in Gaza and called up nearly 360,000 reserve troops.

Over the past two years of conflict, more than 67,000 Palestinians — mostly women and children — have been killed due to Israeli airstrikes and blockades. Another 170,000 people have been wounded. The Israeli siege has pushed Gaza’s 2 million residents into a dire humanitarian crisis, facing extreme hunger and famine. Essential infrastructure — including hospitals, mosques, schools, and roads — has been destroyed, leaving hundreds of thousands displaced in ruins.

Meanwhile, former U.S. President Donald Trump, in a press briefing at the White House, stated that negotiations are ongoing to resolve the centuries-old Middle East conflict and expressed hope for a peace agreement soon. He added that Hamas has agreed on several key points and urged Israel to avoid a hostile stance regarding the release of hostages.

Trump also mentioned that Turkey, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia are actively supporting peace efforts. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, he said, is using his influence to restore calm in Gaza, and Hamas reportedly holds him in high regard.
