Islamabad (Staff Report/Agencies): Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn on Thursday said that his country was ready to play a role to de-escalate tensions between India and Pakistan.
“Peace in Afghanistan is the interest of the region and Pakistan. No one wants a war between the two nuclear rivals. We consider the release of the Indian pilot a good gesture by Islamabad,” Asselborn said while addressing a joint conference with Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
He further added that there is global concern regarding the situation in Indian occupied Kashmir (IOK).
FM Qureshi termed the role of Pakistan in Afghanistan’s peace process important and said the country desires peace in the entire region.
Qureshi told reporters that a wide range of bilateral and regional issues were discussed during the meeting with his Luxembourg counterpart.
The matter of summit-level talks between Pakistan and the European Union was discussed, as well as steps being taken to reduce tensions with India, Qureshi said.
