World Food Safety Day: President Zardari, PM Shehbaz call for safe, resilient food system 

Islamabad (Web Desk): Marking World Food Safety Day, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the urgent need for a secure, resilient, and nutritious food system, urging all stakeholders to fulfill their responsibilities in ensuring food safety across the country.

In separate statements issued on the occasion, the president and the premier highlighted that food safety is a collective responsibility and stressed the important role played by every individual involved in farming, food production, processing, distribution, and supply chains in protecting public health.

President Asif Ali Zardari noted that this year's theme focuses on the importance of scientific research, data-driven policies, and evidence-based solutions in combating foodborne illnesses and strengthening food safety standards.

He said such approaches are essential for reducing health risks associated with unsafe food and achieving better outcomes for consumers.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message, said that preventing diseases and malnutrition linked to contaminated or unsafe food requires coordinated efforts from all sectors.

He stressed that governments, producers, businesses, and consumers must work together to address food safety challenges and promote healthier communities.

World Food Safety Day was established by the United Nations in 2018 and is observed annually under the joint leadership of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

The global initiative seeks to raise awareness and encourage practical measures aimed at improving food safety and protecting public health worldwide.
