Renowned poet Khatir Ghaznavi remembered on death anniversary

Islamabad (Web Desk): The 17th death anniversary of the distinguished poet and writer Khatir Ghaznavi was solemnly observed on Monday, remembering a literary figure whose voice left a lasting imprint on Urdu and Hindko literature.

Born in 1925 in Peshawar as Muhammad Ibrahim Baig, Ghaznavi would later rise to prominence under his chosen pen name, becoming a celebrated presence in Pakistan’s cultural and intellectual circles.

His literary journey began with Radio Pakistan Peshawar, where his eloquence and deep command of language first found a platform. Over the years, his association with influential literary journals such as Sang-e-meel and Ehsaas further cemented his place among the literary vanguard of his time.

In recognition of his unwavering dedication to literature, Khatir Ghaznavi was appointed Director General of the Pakistan Academy of Letters in 1984—a role that allowed him to further nurture the literary landscape of the country.

His contributions were honoured by the Government of Pakistan in 1999 with the prestigious Presidential Pride of Performance award, underscoring the national appreciation for his work.

Khatir Ghaznavi passed away on this day in 2008, but his words and wisdom continue to resonate, keeping his legacy alive in the hearts of readers and admirers across generations.
