Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The total number of recovered COVID-19 patients in Pakistan reached 258,099 on Friday after another 2,041 virus recoveries were reported during the last 24 hours.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 282,645 after 782 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country over the last twenty four hours.
Overall, 122,759 cases were reported in Sindh, 94,040 in Punjab, 34,432 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 11,821 in Balochistan, 15,182 in Islamabad, 2,287 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 2,124 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 6,040 with 17 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar has urged the federal and provincial administrations to ensure public safety and well-being through effective measures against Covid-19 during upcoming Muharram.
Chairing a meeting of National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) in Islamabad on Friday he said people of Pakistan have been very responsive and they have shown great patience and compliance to various health guidelines.
“If the same spirit is followed till Muharram, it will help to mitigate health challenges,” the minister said.
Asad Umar said opening up of various sectors must be followed with health guidelines.
He said that the coronavirus threat is still there and if health guidelines are not followed, there is always a threat that disease can again spread.
The NCOC meeting deliberated in length roadmap and measures post opening up various sectors and upcoming two major events, including Independence Day and Muharram.
The forum was apprised that a complete code of conduct has been made for ensuring social distancing measures and face masks.
It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 19 million and death toll tops 714,000.
