On Defence Day, Pakistan's Armed Forces pay tribute to martyrs, reaffirm resolve to defend country 

Rawalpindi (Web Desk): Pakistan’s top military leadership and the Armed Forces on Sunday paid homage to the nation’s martyrs and conveyed their profound appreciation to veterans and the families who lost loved ones in the line of duty as Pakistan observed the 61st Defence and Martyrs’ Day.

According to a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Syed Asim Munir, Air Chief Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf and Commander National Strategic Command General Syed Aamer Raza and the armed forces “pay profound tribute to the shuhada (martyrs) of Pakistan and extend their deepest respect and gratitude to the ghazis (fighters) and the families of our martyrs on the occasion of the 61st Defence and Martyrs’ Day”.

The statement described September 6 as a lasting representation of unity, bravery and determination, recalling how the people of Pakistan came together to defend the country during the 1965 war.

“September 6 remains an enduring symbol of national unity, courage and resolve, reminding us how the Pakistani nation stood as one in defence of the motherland during the war of 1965,” the statement said.

It said the country’s fallen soldiers represented the finest values of honour, responsibility and self-sacrifice.

The ISPR further highlighted the sacrifices made by Pakistan’s defenders over successive generations on land, in the air and at sea, noting that their service and sacrifice continue to serve as an inspiration for generations to come. It also paid tribute to the families of the martyrs, describing them as examples of strength and perseverance.

“We also salute our ghazis, who continue to guard the nation’s frontiers with valour, steadfastness and distinguished service,” the statement said.

The Armed Forces reaffirmed that they remained ready to safeguard Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national interests. At the same time, the statement stressed that Pakistan continued to favour peace, regional stability and prosperity while maintaining its commitment to responsible behaviour and peaceful coexistence.

“This commitment, however, must never be mistaken for weakness. Any aggression against Pakistan will be met with a swift and decisive response.”

The military leadership also reiterated its firm commitment to serving Pakistan and its people without hesitation.

“The supreme sacrifices of our shuhada, the spirit of our ghazis and the fortitude of their families will forever remain a source of national strength and pride. Standing united with the nation, the armed forces will continue to discharge their sacred responsibilities with honour, professionalism and unflinching resolve,” the ISPR said.
