President Zardari grants 180-day remission to prisoners on Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH)

Islamabad (Web Desk): On the blessed occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH), President Asif Ali Zardari has approved a special reduction of 180 days in prison sentences for eligible inmates, exercising his authority under Article 45 of the Constitution.

The recommendation for this relief had initially come from the Prime Minister and the Federal Cabinet, who suggested a 100-day remission. However, after consultations, the Prime Minister endorsed the President’s proposal to extend the period to 180 days as a gesture of compassion.

This concession will only be available to prisoners who qualify under the legal criteria, while those found guilty of grave offenses such as terrorism, murder, espionage, and significant financial crimes will not be considered.
