Pakistan desires permanent end to US-Iran war for regional peace: PM Shehbaz 

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed Pakistan’s desire for a durable and permanent end to the conflict between the United States and Iran, stressing that lasting peace is vital for stability across the region.

Speaking at the sixth International Paigham-e-Islam Conference in Islamabad, he underlined Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement, stating that its efforts played a key role in creating space for dialogue between the two countries.

PM Shehbaz revealed that, for the first time since 1979, Pakistan managed to encourage both Iranian and US leadership to enter negotiations, with talks taking place in Islamabad on April 11 and 12.

He noted that both sides accepted Pakistan’s invitation and agreed to a ceasefire, for which he expressed appreciation.

The prime minister said that this development demonstrates the confidence the global community places in Pakistan, adding that the country had carried out an important service by contributing to peace and regional stability.

The conference was attended by several prominent figures, including Advisor to the President of Palestine on Religious Affairs and Islamic Relations and Supreme Judge Dr. Mahmoud Al-Habbash, Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and Palestine Sheikh Muhammad Ahmad Hussein, Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, and Saudi Ambassador Nawaf bin Saeed Ahmad Al-Malkiy.

PM Shehbaz voiced optimism that the ongoing dialogue process would soon lead to lasting peace in the region, preventing further human suffering.

Calling Pakistan’s role historic, Shehbaz Sharif said the nation’s efforts would be remembered positively in history.

The premier particularly praised Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for his role in facilitating the ceasefire and dialogue process.

He also acknowledged Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s contribution to peace efforts and appreciated the involvement of China, Turkiye, and other friendly nations in supporting diplomatic progress.

PM Shehbaz emphasized that Pakistan has consistently maintained a balanced and principled approach in regional affairs.

He further noted that Pakistan-Saudi relations have entered a new phase, stating that the protection and defense of the Harmain Sharifain remain above everything else.

He described the defense agreement between the two countries as a reflection of this deep commitment.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s stance, he said that the country continues to firmly support the causes of Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir until both peoples achieve their right to self-determination.

He also urged religious scholars to strengthen unity within the Muslim Ummah in line with the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), adding that those who promote division or engage in terrorism cannot be considered true Muslims.

Earlier, addressing the second session of the Ulema Council Conference, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to peace and stability in the region.

He highlighted ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and promoting dialogue.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s principled position on Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir and stressed the importance of unity among Muslim countries, the central role of the OIC, and collective efforts for the welfare of the Ummah. He also pointed to Pakistan’s efforts in addressing Islamophobia and encouraging interfaith harmony worldwide.

Paying tribute to national resilience on the anniversary of “Marka-e-Haq,” Ishaq Dar said that under the leadership of PM Shehbaz, peace, development, and prosperity remain key priorities of the country’s vision.

He also welcomed the participation of international and local scholars, describing the conference as timely and significant.

Chairman Pakistan Ulema Council Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi said Pakistan has continuously raised the issue of Palestine at every global forum and has worked consistently over the past two months to promote peace efforts.

He reaffirmed that Pakistan’s commitment to the Palestinian cause remains strong and unchanged.
