Pakistan, Azerbaijan call for de-escalation, restoration of peace in region

Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan and Azerbaijan have underscored the importance of reducing tensions and ensuring peace is restored in the region.

The understanding was reached during a telephone conversation between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Ilham Aliyev on Friday.

During the exchange, the prime minister strongly denounced the drone strikes carried out a day earlier on Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan exclave, which resulted in civilian casualties.

He described the attacks as unacceptable and expressed deep concern over the targeting of innocent people.
PM Shehbaz reaffirmed that Pakistan stands firmly with the leadership and people of Azerbaijan in this difficult period, reiterating Islamabad’s full solidarity with the brotherly nation.

He also informed President Aliyev about Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic engagements following the developing situation in Iran and the Gulf region, highlighting the country’s efforts to address the crisis through dialogue and coordination with regional partners.

President Aliyev thanked PM Shehbaz for reaching out and appreciated the message of support and solidarity conveyed by the government and people of Pakistan at this challenging time.

The two leaders also agreed to remain in close contact as developments unfold.
