Pakistan calls for just settlement of Kashmir issue during UN debate

New York (Web Desk): Pakistan has asserted that the United Nations Security Council’s (UNSC) Annual Report for 2025 reflects the ongoing importance of several unresolved international conflicts, particularly the issues of Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing the UN General Assembly during the presentation of the Security Council’s annual review, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, said the report demonstrates that these longstanding disputes continue to demand the attention of the international community.

He noted that achieving lasting peace and stability in South Asia remains closely linked to a fair resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir issue.

According to the ambassador, such a settlement must be based on the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and respect the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. He stressed that Kashmiris should be granted the right to determine their own future, a commitment he said had been made by both the Security Council and the broader international community.

The Pakistani envoy also reiterated Islamabad’s firm support for the Palestinian cause, emphasizing the Palestinian people's right to self-determination.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s backing for the establishment of an independent, sovereign, and territorially connected Palestinian state along the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif serving as its capital.
