Stormy rains submerge low lying areas in Punjab and other regions

Lahore (Web Desk):The ongoing spell of monsoon rains has intensified across Pakistan, causing widespread urban flooding and disruptions in several cities, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad.

In Lahore, heavy downpours accompanied by strong winds inundated low-lying areas, disrupting daily life. Rainwater entered homes and turned roads into virtual canals, severely affecting traffic and mobility.

Islamabad and Rawalpindi recorded 130mm of rainfall, raising the water level in Nullah Lai to 15 feet at Katarian. Authorities have issued a high alert for nearby settlements, while rescue teams and heavy machinery have been deployed to manage the situation.

Power supply was also impacted, as strong winds and thunderstorms caused multiple feeders to trip, resulting in widespread outages and prolonged load-shedding across several regions.

In Kahuta, a tragic incident occurred when the roof of a mud house collapsed due to the heavy rains. One child was reported dead and four others injured. The injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital.

Elsewhere, Azad Kashmir, Murree, Galiyat, and parts of Balochistan also experienced intense rainfall. Authorities have warned of potential landslides in mountainous areas.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast further heavy rainfall over the next 24 to 48 hours across Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Balochistan. Citizens are advised to stay alert, avoid unnecessary travel, and exercise caution in low-lying and vulnerable areas.
