Islamabad Safe City to be transformed into Capital Smart City: Naqvi

Islamabad (Web Desk): Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that government plans to expand the Islamabad Safe City initiative, transforming it into a fully integrated Capital Smart City designed to enhance policing, traffic control, and public services.

According to details, the minister visited the Safe City Headquarters in Islamabad, where he chaired a high-level meeting to review the progress of Phase-II of the project.

During the briefing, it was confirmed that all work under Phase-II is expected to be finished by May 30. The minister directd the officials to ensure the project stays on track and is completed without any delays.

Naqvi also announced plans to upgrade the Central Command and Control System in Islamabad, noting that advanced traffic and crime management systems will be seamlessly incorporated under the Capital Smart City framework.

He stated that “every possible resource is being utilized to make Islamabad a safer city.”

The meeting also approved the redesigned plans for the Safe City Headquarters.

Inspector General of Islamabad Police Ali Nasir Rizvi provided a detailed update, revealing that 75% of Phase-II has already been completed.

Work is ongoing to install modern surveillance cameras and monitoring systems, while 152 kilometers of fiber-optic cables have been laid.

According to the briefing, Phase-II is scheduled to wrap up by May 20, after which testing of the systems will begin.

The meeting was attended by Interior Secretary Khurram Agha, DG FIA Dr. Usman Anwar, IG Islamabad Police Ali Nasir Rizvi, DG Safe City Haroon Joya, and several other senior officials.
