Singer Quratulain Balouch survives brown bear attack in Skardu 

Skardu (Web Desk): Renowned singer Quratulain Balouch, better known as QB, sustained injuries in Deosai National Park near Skardu after being attacked by a brown bear during a camping trip on Thursday night.

The  'Woh Humsafar Tha' fame singer was swiftly rescued by people in the vicinity and shifted to a hospital, where doctors later confirmed that she is out of danger.

Wildlife officials from Gilgit-Baltistan reported that the rare brown bear stormed into the camp near Bara Pani, a well-known camping spot in Deosai, where the singer had gone with her team for a shoot.

GB police spokesperson Ghulam Muhammad said Balouch was accompanied by two friends when the bear lunged at them, injuring both of her arms with its claws and teeth. Her cameraman and another companion remained safe.

According to reports, the bear backed off when her screams drew the attention of nearby campers. Wildlife staff stationed in the area reached the site quickly, gave her first aid, and then transported her to RHQ Hospital Skardu, where doctors confirmed her condition was stable. Police have opened an investigation into the matter.

As per the officials, the Himalayan brown bear, which is native to the Deosai plains, often wanders towards Bara Pani in search of food and that similar incidents have been reported in the past. Tourists have been advised to avoid camping in isolated areas and instead pitch tents close to hotels or designated safe sites after dark.

Stretching across the districts of Skardu and Astore, Deosai National Park is among Pakistan’s most spectacular natural attractions, drawing large numbers of domestic and international tourists each summer who often camp there for several days.

The park shelters a wide variety of wildlife, including the Himalayan marmot and the endangered Himalayan brown bear, whose population in the region is estimated to be only 77. These bears mainly feed on fish from the Bandapani river.
