Islamabad (Web Desk): Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Tuesday visited the Margalla Road–Motorway extension site, where he reviewed the progress of the construction work currently underway.
During his visit, he was briefed in detail about the different segments and technical aspects of the project.
Authorities confirmed that construction has officially commenced on this large-scale infrastructure initiative, which is aimed at giving citizens a faster and more efficient travel corridor by directly linking Margalla Road with the Motorway as part of a broader development plan.
Officials explained that the project spans 2.7 kilometres and will include a dual three-lane roadway on both sides, accompanied by a two-lane service road.
The design also incorporates an interchange on GT Road, along with two underpasses and a bridge to maintain uninterrupted traffic movement.
While reviewing the site, the Interior Minister instructed concerned departments to ensure that the Sangjani Interchange on GT Road, which forms part of the scheme, is completed by July 31.
He highlighted that the new connection will provide commuters with an alternate and quicker route between Islamabad and the Motorway, helping to significantly reduce congestion and travel duration.
The minister further stressed that all possible resources should be deployed to meet the deadline, noting that the government is prioritising transparency, quality, and speed across all development projects. He added that improving public travel facilities and ensuring smoother mobility remain key goals of the administration.
As per the briefing, the entire project is expected to be completed by December 2026. Officials also noted that the remaining 2.5-kilometre stretch will be carried out by the Punjab government.
Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman, Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP), Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad, and other relevant officials were present on the occasion.
