Lahore ATC grants bail to Aleema Khan's son Shershah in May 9 riots case 

Lahore (Web Desk): An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Thursday granted bail to Shershah, son of Aleema Khan and nephew of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, in connection with the Jinnah House attack case arising from the May 9, 2023 riots.

According to details, he was arrested on August 22, a day after the detention of his brother Shahrez. Following his custody, he was placed on a five-day physical remand before being shifted to a 14-day judicial remand.

The violent incidents of May 9 had erupted across the country after the arrest of the PTI founder in a corruption case, leading to damage and assaults on military and government properties. Among these, the attack on Jinnah House became one of the most high-profile cases.

During today’s hearing, Shershah’s legal counsel argued that the challan had not been filed and that his client could not be kept behind bars indefinitely. The lawyer further asserted that there was no evidence of his involvement and that he had no part in the riots. After hearing he arguments, the court approved his bail request.

Earlier on Wednesday, his brother Shahrez had also been granted bail in another case linked to the May 9 violence. Both brothers are facing allegations of participating in the unrest and conducting an anti-state campaign.

As per the sources, Shershah was accused of being present alongside Hassan Niazi during the Jinnah House attack and had already been nominated in the case.

The charges against him included arson, vandalism, burning of a police vehicle, and carrying out an anti-state digital campaign for several months. It was also alleged that he went into hiding following the riots and later escaped to London, where he stayed for almost two years.
