California (Web Desk): AI-powered virtual companions are becoming increasingly popular, and now OpenAI has joined the trend with the introduction of a new feature called “Codex Pets.”
The company has launched animated AI companions designed for Codex, allowing users to interact with virtual pets while working on coding projects.
Unlike many other AI companions, Codex Pets remain continuously active with live project status updates, helping users avoid constantly switching between tabs.
Through this feature, users can monitor active threads, track ongoing tasks within Codex, and review projects without interrupting their workflow.
To enable the feature, users need to open Codex settings, select “Appearance,” and then choose the “Pets” option.
Once activated, the companions can be enabled or disabled at any time according to user preference.
The feature currently offers eight pet options, including cats and dogs, while users can also create custom pets of their own.
Users will additionally be able to design personalized AI companions through prompts in Codex and share them online.
