Mainly dry weather to prevail across Pakistan, rain likely in upper regions: PMD

Islamabad (Web Desk): The Pakistan Meteorological Department has projected that dry conditions will dominate much of the country on Thursday, while elevated regions are likely to continue experiencing chilly and partly overcast weather.

The forecast indicates that scattered locations in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir may receive brief spells of light rain and thunderstorms, with light snowfall expected over higher mountainous areas. Temperatures across the plains are anticipated to remain above the usual levels for this time of year.

In Islamabad and its surrounding areas, the weather is expected to stay largely dry with intermittent cloud cover. Strong winds may pick up during the afternoon hours, and the mercury is likely to climb between 31°C and 33°C.

Throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), most districts are forecast to witness dry weather, whereas upper parts of the province may see partly cloudy skies and lower temperatures. There is a possibility of isolated light rain and thunderstorms, along with snowfall on higher ground, in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan and Bajaur and adjacent localities.

Plain areas are expected to record daytime highs between 31°C and 33°C, while hilly regions may experience temperatures ranging from 21°C to 23°C.

Across Punjab, dry weather is likely to prevail in the majority of districts, accompanied by warm conditions during the day. Gusty winds are anticipated in the plains in the afternoon, and upper as well as central districts may observe partly cloudy skies.

In Murree and Galiyat, the outlook suggests partly cloudy weather with cold mornings and nights. Daytime temperatures in central and southern parts of the province are forecast to hover between 32°C and 34°C.

Most districts of Sindh are expected to remain hot and dry, with maximum temperatures ranging from 35°C to 37°C.

In Balochistan, predominantly dry weather is predicted, although northern areas may face cold conditions during the early morning and nighttime hours. Temperatures in northern districts are likely to range between 26°C and 28°C, while southern parts could see highs between 33°C and 35°C.

Partly cloudy skies accompanied by light rain, thunderstorms and snowfall over higher elevations may occur at a few locations in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

During the last 24 hours, from 5pm yesterday until 5pm today, dry weather was observed in most regions of the country, while mountainous areas experienced cold conditions in the morning and at night. Temperatures in the plains remained higher than average.

The highest maximum temperature recorded during this period was 37°C in Rohri, Bahawalnagar, Mithi, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu and Hyderabad.
