President, PM felicitate Lee Jae-Myung on his victory in Korean presidential elections

Islamabad (Web Desk): President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday congratulated Lee Jae-Myung on his victory in the Presidential elections in South Korea.

In a statement, the president said that Pakistan remains committed to deepening its partnership with the Republic of Korea to achieve our mutual objectives for regional and global peace, as well as the prosperity of the two nations.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday also felicitated Lee Jae-Myung on his victory in the Presidential elections in South Korea.

In his post on social media handle X, the prime minister wished the president-elect Lee a successful tenure in office, expressing the hope to work together with him to foster stronger Pakistan-Korea relations.

Lee Jae-myung, leader of South Korea’s centre-left Democratic Party, has been declared the winner of the snap presidential election held on June 3, 2025.

The vote followed months of political upheaval, culminating in the impeachment of former president Yoon Suk Yeol after his controversial decision to declare martial law, a move that threw the country into crisis.

With official results released by the National Election Commission, Lee secured 49.42% of the vote, defeating conservative challenger Kim Moon-soo, who garnered 41.15%.

The turnout for the election reached an impressive 77.8%, the highest in nearly thirty years, reflecting the public’s heightened engagement in the wake of recent turmoil.
