India's claims of regional dominance collapsed during recent conflict: DPM DAR

Islamabad (Web Desk): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Wednesday said that India's so-called "new normal" has collapsed, with the recent confrontation between Pakistan and India exposing the fragility of New Delhi’s hegemonic claims.

Speaking to journalists in Islamabad, he highlighted the country's diplomatic engagements before and after the conflict, noting that Pakistan had succeeded in shooting down six Indian fighter jets and one unmanned aerial vehicle during the hostilities.

DPM Dar stated that Pakistan’s military response has garnered appreciation, but more importantly, its diplomatic initiatives have drawn significant international recognition. He added that even within India, voices have emerged acknowledging the impact of Pakistan’s successful diplomatic efforts.

FM Dar noted that although the ceasefire currently remains intact, Indian political leaders have resorted to aggressive rhetoric, which he attributed to the approaching elections in India.

He emphasized that while Pakistan is open to dialogue with India, it is not in a position of urgency or desperation.

DPM Dar reiterated Pakistan’s stance in favor of a comprehensive dialogue that addresses all outstanding matters, including terrorism and the Indus Waters Treaty.

He warned that any Indian attempt to tamper with or block the water flow would be interpreted as an act of war.

FM Dar underscored that under international law, the Indus Waters Treaty cannot be suspended or altered unilaterally.

Commenting on the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent diplomatic tour, DPM Dar shared that visits were made to Turkiye, Iran, Azerbaijan, and Tajikistan to convey Pakistan’s gratitude for the solidarity shown by these nations during the standoff with India.

He also mentioned that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to travel to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia the following day to similarly acknowledge Saudi support.

The deputy premier affirmed that Pakistan remains committed to peace and economic advancement.

He further announced that Pakistan will take over the presidency of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) next month, during which it will steer discussions centered on the theme "Promoting International Peace and Security through Multilateralism and Peaceful Settlement of Disputes."
