Meta confirms testing of Instagram close friends opt-out feature

California (Web Desk): Instagram is working on a new feature that will allow users to remove themselves from another person’s Close Friends list.

Meta has confirmed the development of this feature; however, it is still in the early testing phase and is not yet available to users.

Instagram’s Close Friends feature allows users to share stories, reels, and posts with a selected group of people. The feature was introduced in 2018, but until now, users did not have the option to remove themselves from someone else’s Close Friends list.

The feature was first reported by X (formerly Twitter) user Alessandro Paluzzi, who is well known for uncovering upcoming features in Meta apps.

He shared screenshots indicating that if a user chooses to leave someone’s Close Friends list, Instagram will notify them that they will no longer be able to view that person’s shared content unless they are added back to the list.

While some users may not like the idea of others leaving their carefully curated Close Friends lists, the feature could prove beneficial for those who do not wish to be included in certain private sharing groups.

A similar feature already exists on Snapchat, and Meta is now considering bringing it to Instagram. However, since the feature is still in its early stages, it remains unclear when it will be rolled out to all users.
