Karachi (Staff Report): A bomb exploded inside a car in Khayaban-e-Mujahid area of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Karachi on Monday morning.
According to police, a homemade vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) caused the explosion in the car parked in a plot. The car had been stolen from Jamshed Quarter area of the city, police officials said.
DIG South Karachi Javed Odho informed that at least 8-10kg of explosives were combined with seven gas cylinders to cause the explosion, along with a 6m long detonating cord.
The explosion was aimed at spreading fear in the area but the bomb failed to detonate completely, he added.
Police officials further said that seven cylinders for household use inside were recovered from the car, which burnt completely in the explosion. The bomb disposal squad rushed to the site of the explosion and collected the burnt remains of the car for analysis. Later police cleared the area.
