Sialkot (Web Desk): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Hina Arshad Warraich has secured overwhelming victory in by-elections of PP-52 Sialkot constituency of Punjab Assembly.
According to the unofficial results from all 185 polling stations, Hina Warraich bagged 78,419 votes while her rival candidate Fakhir Nishat Ghuman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) remained runner up with 40,037 votes.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz have felicitated PML-N candidate Hina Arshad Warraich on winning the by-election in PP-52 Sambrial.
In their separate statements, they said that the splendid victory of PML-N on the by-election has shown complete trust of people on the government policies.
Earlier on Sunday, the polling continued peacefully from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.The vote casting was briefly halted on the instructions of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), but overall the day remained calm.
Political enthusiasm was evident at polling stations throughout the day, with slogan chanting and minor scuffles reported between party workers.
In some areas, allegations of rigging also surfaced, but no major untoward incident was reported.
According to the ECP, a total of 296,563 registered voters were present in the constituency.
