Islamabad (Web Desk): The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has nominated Justice Aalia Neelum as the chief justice (CJ) of the Lahore High Court (LHC).
It is for the first time that a woman judge has been named for the post.
The nomination was made unanimously during a meeting of the JCP headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa today (Tuesday).
Justice Aalia is third in the seniority list of the judges after the elevation of former LHC CJ Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan and Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan to the Supreme Court (SC).
Justice Aalia will serve as the LHC CJ until November 2028. She is known for her expertise in criminal law, and is known for several key verdicts.
Meanwhile, Justice Shafi Muhammad Siddiqui was also unanimously nominated as Sindh High Court (SHC) chief justice.
Justice Siddiqui’s nomination came after former SHC CJ Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi's elevation as SC judge earlier this month.
