Lahore (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz Sharif has expressed confidence that the introduction of shrimp farming will play a key role in expanding Punjab’s export base, giving a fresh push to the provincial economy and promoting environmentally sustainable development.
While chairing a meeting in Lahore on Friday, she noted that the Blue Economy project stands as the largest initiative ever launched in the province, designed to bring unproductive and saline land into profitable use.
The Punjab CM shared that, as part of this project, shrimp estates covering a total area of 5,600 acres will be established in Sargodha and Alipur to support large-scale shrimp cultivation.
The meeting was briefed that practical work is already underway, with nine ponds spread across 20 acres prepared for shrimp farming, where shrimp seed has been introduced for research and experimental purposes.
