Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has demanded that Israel should be held accountable for the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.
Addressing the National Assembly session on Monday, he said that the entire Pakistani nation and Muslim Ummah are aggrieved over the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh.
“The martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh is a blow to peace efforts. Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations including extra judicial and extraterritorial killings,” PM Shehbaz said.
The prime minister strongly condemned the atrocities and brutalities committed by Israel against innocent Palestinian people, asserting that Israel has exceeded all bounds of persecution in Palestine.
He noted there is widespread anger globally, particularly within the Muslim world, in response to Israeli actions against Palestinians.
PM Shehbaz warned that if justice is not served and Israel is not held accountable, it will further inflame public sentiments and anger.
He said the sacrifices being rendered by the Palestinian people will always be remembered in golden words, emphasizing these will not go waste but will bear fruit.
“A nation which is giving sacrifices for the sake of independence cannot be defeated,” the premier noted.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s full support and solidarity with the Palestinian people, Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan will continue to supply humanitarian assistance to them.
He said it has also been decided to take effective steps for the provision of medical treatment to the injured Palestinians. For this purpose, the injured Palestinians will be brought to Pakistan.
The prime minister said that the Palestinian medical students will be enrolled in Pakistan’s institutions.
He demanded that access to humanitarian aid for the Palestinian people be ensured on humanitarian grounds.
The prime minister emphasized the need for making platform of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) more effective to address the plight of Palestinian people.
Earlier, the federal cabinet has condemned in strongest terms the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was martyred in Tehran the other day.
The cabinet, which met in Islamabad on Thursday with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the chair, also appealed to the entire nation to offer "Ghaibana Namaz-e-Janaza" of Shaheed Ismail Haniyeh after Jumma prayer.
