Lahore (Staff Report/Agencies): The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday filed a corruption reference against two former lieutenant generals, a maj gen, and a brig of the Pakistan Army in the Railways Golf Club lease case.
According to a NAB press release, the reference, filed in a local accountability court, has named former federal minister for railways and communication lieutenant general (retd) Javed Ashraf Qazi, Lt Gen (retd) Saeed-ul-Zafar, Maj Gen (retd) Hamid Hassan Butt, Brig (retd) Akhtar Ali Baig, Iqbal Samad, Ramzan Sheikh, Pervaiz Qureshi and Railway Royal Palm Golf Club sponsors as accused.
Last month, in a board meeting, NAB Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal approved the filing of a corruption reference in the case pertaining to a land deal in 2001.
The Interior Ministry had put Javed Ashraf Qazi and three army officers in the Exit Control List (ECL).
The former chairman railway board Saeed-ul-Zafar has also been placed on the list. Former general manager railways Hamid Hasan Butt and Akhtar Ali were also placed on the ECL.
The sources said that the officials face allegations of transferring railway land to Royal Palm Golf Club and they allegedly caused a loss of more than Rs2 billion to the national exchequer.
