Bishkek (Web Desk): United Nations (UN) UN Secretary-General António Guterres has lauded Pakistan’s positive and principled engagement in international diplomacy, acknowledging Islamabad’s efforts to support peace and stability across the region.
The UN chief conveyed these views while meeting Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Heads of State Summit in Bishkek today.
Their discussion covered a range of regional issues, including the latest developments, arrangements for the forthcoming United Nations General Assembly session and matters currently being considered by the UN Security Council (UNSC).
Ishaq Dar praised Guterres for his efforts to reinforce the United Nations’ role in dealing with major global challenges and strengthening the effectiveness of multilateral cooperation.
The deputy prime minister reiterated Pakistan’s enduring commitment to the UN and highlighted the strong and longstanding relationship between Islamabad and the international organisation.
Dar also invited Guterres to undertake an official visit to Pakistan. The UN secretary-general accepted the invitation, while the Foreign Office will work with the UN Secretariat to determine and confirm suitable dates for the visit.
