Islamabad (Staff Report/Agencies): The Islamabad High Court on Wednesday remarked that that no amendment in the Election Act, 2017 restricts overseas Pakistanis from using their right to vote.
While hearing a plea against the National Assembly bill revoking the Election Act, 2017 amendments that allowed the overseas Pakistanis to vote in general elections, IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah remarked that none of the amendments made to the Elections Act, 2017 by the incumbent coalition government deprived overseas Pakistanis of the right to vote,
Earlier, the Senate and National Assembly passed “The Elections (Amendment) Bill, 2022”.
Speaking at the NA session, Federal Minister for law Azam Nazeer Tarar said that the PTI government had made several amendments to the Election Act, 2017, including those that allowed the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and granted overseas Pakistanis the right to vote in general elections.
