Google introduces AI-powered voice search feature for gmail

California (Web Desk): Google is continuing to expand the use of artificial intelligence across its products, and the latest addition is a new AI-powered capability for Gmail that allows users to search their emails using voice commands.

The feature, called Gmail Live, has initially been rolled out in beta for a limited number of Android and iOS users. Once available, it will enable users to find emails in their inbox simply by speaking, eliminating the need to type search queries.

According to reports, Gmail Live is built on the same concept as Gemini Live, Google's AI-powered voice conversation feature that lets users interact with the Gemini chatbot in real time. The new integration brings similar conversational AI functionality directly into Gmail, making email management faster and more convenient.

When the feature reaches users, a new Live icon, alongside the Gemini button, will appear in Gmail's search section. Tapping the icon will launch a full-screen voice interface, allowing users to ask Gemini to locate specific emails or search through the contents of their inbox using natural spoken language.

Google is also planning to extend the feature beyond Gmail. In the coming months, Gmail Live is expected to become available in Google Docs and Google Drive, giving users the ability to search files and documents through voice commands across multiple Google services.

The company first unveiled the Gemini-powered feature during its annual developer conference in May 2026. It has now begun a gradual rollout, with wider availability expected over time.

Initially, Gmail Live will be offered exclusively to subscribers of Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra, before expanding to more users in future releases.
