Rahim Yar Khan (Web Desk): At least five police personnel were martyred after armed bandits of the Katcha area attacked a police checkpost in Rahim Yar Khan, the Punjab Police stated on Friday.
According to police, the attack targeted the Sheikhani Police Checkpoint, which lies between Mahi Chowk and Sewetra Chowk along the Guddu-Kashmore Road.
Police officials stated that approximately 40 armed assailants launched the assault using heavy weaponry, including rocket launchers and grenades.
The attackers overwhelmed the checkpoint in a coordinated and brutal strike, resulting in significant loss of life among the officers stationed there.
The police officials were identified as Muhammad Irfan, Muhammad Saleem, and Nukhail—hailing from Bahawalnagar—as well as Constable Khalil and Ghazanfar, both based in Rahim Yar Khan.
One of the attackers was reportedly shot dead when the police returned fire, though the rest of the bandits group managed to escape.
Meanwhile, the law enforcers, led by District Police Officer Irfan Ali Samo sealed all entry-exit points to the area.
