Tehran (Web Desk): Funeral prayer for slain Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh was held in Iran’s capital Tehran on Thursday.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei led the Hamas leader’s funeral prayer at the University of Tehran.

The services began with an address from Iran’s parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

"Martyr Ismail Haniyeh was the voice of the Palestinian people all over the world," Ghalibaf said. "He was not only a leader. He was the wise man."

Ghalibaf added that Haniyeh's assassination, in Tehran, on Wednesday, would not go unanswered.
"Our reply will be there. At the right time and the right place. It is difficult for us to have our guest being targeted and assassinated on our soil," he said.

Mourners gathered at the university with portraits of Haniyeh, and the funeral procession will proceed to Azadi Square. Haniyeh is set to be buried in Doha on Friday.

Hamas leader and former Prime Minister of Gaza Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in an attack in Tehran on Wednesday morning.

According to Iranian media, Hamas leader was martyred in an Israeli attack on his residence.
