PM Shehbaz in Bishkek on three-day official visit to Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reached Kyrgyzstan on Monday for a three-day official visit aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s ties with the Central Asian state. His visit comes at the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Nurgozhoevich Zhaparov.

Upon landing at Manas International Airport, the prime minister was received by Kyrgyzstan’s Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Adylbek Kasymaliev.

According to the Foreign Office (FO), PM Shehbaz is set to take part in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State session during his stay, along with a number of meetings focused on bilateral relations.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, Communications Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar and other senior government officials are part of the prime minister’s delegation.

The prime minister will attend both the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting and the SCO Plus Summit.

During the visit, Pakistan will also assume the chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State for the 2026–2027 term.

Apart from the formal SCO proceedings, Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to meet heads and leaders of other participating countries to discuss matters of mutual concern. He will also attend the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games, which is being held on Monday.

On September 2, PM Shehbaz will hold formal talks with President Sadyr Zhaparov to discuss the broad spectrum of relations between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan.

The two sides are expected to assess existing cooperation and identify new avenues for expanding bilateral ties, with particular attention to trade and investment, energy, regional connectivity, education, tourism and greater people-to-people interaction.

The Pakistani and Kyrgyz leadership will also share perspectives on regional and international issues of common interest and explore possibilities for enhanced coordination through regional and multilateral forums.
