California (Web Desk): Meta Platforms is preparing to test an artificial intelligence-powered pendant within the next year as part of its broader push into wearable technology, according to a report by The Information citing an internal company memo.
The company, which owns Facebook and Instagram, declined to comment on the report when approached by Reuters.
According to the memo, written by Meta’s vice president of wearables, Alex Himel, the tech giant is looking to substantially broaden its lineup of AI-enabled smart glasses.
The company is also planning to introduce a workplace-oriented service called “Wearables for Work,” aimed at expanding the use of wearable technology in professional settings.
The reported plans come as Meta continues to face financial challenges in its hardware business. Its Reality Labs division, which oversees virtual reality, augmented reality and wearable products, posted a first-quarter loss of $4.03 billion despite generating revenue of only $402 million.
The move highlights Meta’s continued investment in next-generation hardware and AI-driven devices as it seeks to strengthen its position in the rapidly evolving wearables market.
