Lahore weather turns pleasant as rain and hailstorms hit the city

Lahore (Web Desk): Parts of Lahore were hit by rain, strong winds and hailstorms on Saturday morning, bringing a noticeable fall in temperature and providing relief from the recent heatwave.

The weather system also prompted emergency measures by civic and power authorities.

According to the Meteorological Department, scattered hail and rain were recorded as a weather system passed over the city.

Officials said the system is expected to exit the country by the end of the day, after which hot and dry conditions are likely to return from Sunday.

Despite temporary disruptions, the rainfall brought relief to residents, with the minimum temperature recorded at around 27°C while the maximum is expected to reach 37°C.

Different areas of the city received varying rainfall levels, with Nishtar Town recording the highest at 48.5mm. Other areas including the airport, Johar Town, Lakshmi Chowk and Mughalpura also received moderate rainfall.

The downpour caused water accumulation in low-lying areas, prompting the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to activate its emergency response system.

Field teams were deployed to keep major roads and underpasses clear, while disposal stations were operated on backup power where necessary.

The rain also disrupted the electricity supply, with Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) reporting the tripping of 65 feeders, resulting in temporary outages in several areas.

Traffic police were deployed at key locations to manage flow and ensure safety, as citizens—especially motorcyclists—were advised to exercise caution due to slippery roads and strong winds.

Authorities urged residents to avoid standing near weak structures, trees, and electrical installations during gusty conditions. Emergency helpline services remained active as monitoring and response operations continued across the city.
