COVID-19: Pakistan reports 2,179 new cases, 65 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 543,214 on Saturday after 2,179 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall, 245,663 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 156,928 in Punjab, 66,679 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 18,809 in Balochistan, 41,255 in Islamabad, 4,908 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 8,972 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 11,623 with 65 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 498,152 after another 1,407 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood on Saturday said that primary and middle schools as well as all universities will reopen from February 1.

Moreover, Punjab Education Minister Murad Raas has also stated that all the educational institutions across the province will be reopened from February 1, 2021.

In a notification shared on social media on Friday, the minister said that all public, private schools, and universities will commence classes on the same day.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 101.053,000 million and death toll tops 2.182,000 million.
