US mulls deployment of Dark Eagle hypersonic missile to Mideast for possible use against Iran: report

Washington (Web Desk): Amid escalating regional tensions in the Middle East, the United States (US) Central Command (CENTCOM) has reportedly proposed deploying its cutting-edge hypersonic missile system, known as “Dark Eagle,” to the region.

The move is aimed at targeting Iranian missile facilities located deep inside the country that are believed to be beyond the reach of conventional weapons systems.

According to defense analysts, the Dark Eagle is considered one of America’s most advanced military technologies, with an operational range exceeding 1,700 miles, or nearly 2,700 kilometers.

The missile system is designed to travel at several times the speed of sound while possessing the ability to alter its flight path midair, making it exceptionally difficult for existing radar and missile defense systems to intercept.

US media reports claim that Iran has recently relocated some of its missile launchers to remote and heavily protected sites that cannot easily be struck by traditional precision-guided weapons.

In response to Iran’s missile capabilities, including systems capable of reaching targets up to 300 miles away, Washington is now preparing to potentially introduce hypersonic technology into the regional security equation.

If approved, the deployment would mark the first time the United States uses hypersonic weapons technology in an operational combat environment, representing a significant milestone in modern military warfare.

However, the project is also expected to carry an enormous financial burden. Estimates suggest that a single Dark Eagle missile costs tens of millions of dollars, while a complete battery system could require investments worth billions.

As per the reports, Russia and China are already regarded as major players in the global hypersonic arms race, having made substantial advancements in the development and deployment of such weapons.

Analysts believe the possible deployment of the Dark Eagle reflects Washington’s broader effort to close the gap in this rapidly evolving field of military technology.

So far, the US military has declined to issue any official statement regarding the reports.
