Pak-Afghan talks failed to yield any workable solution, says information minister 

Islamabad (Web Desk): Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has said that the latest round of talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan held in Turkiye failed to produce any workable solution.

In a post on his X handle, the minister expressed regret that the Afghan Taliban engaged in blame-shifting, deflection, and evasive tactics instead of acknowledging responsibility.

The information minister stated that the Afghan Taliban delegation had repeatedly agreed to Pakistan’s legitimate and reasonable demand for credible and decisive action against terrorist organizations.

Tarar said Pakistan had presented sufficient and irrefutable evidence during the discussions, which was acknowledged by both the Afghan delegation and the hosts.

However, he added, the Afghan side failed to provide any assurances and continued to deviate from the main issue, avoiding the core point on which the dialogue process was initiated.

Attaullah Tarar recalled that Pakistan had consistently engaged with the Afghan Taliban regime over the persistent threat of cross-border terrorism carried out by Indian-backed militant groups, including Fitna al Khwarij (TTP) and Fitna al Hindustan (BLA).

He said the Afghan regime had repeatedly been urged to honor its written commitments to Pakistan and to the international community under the Doha Agreement. Despite these repeated efforts,

Pakistan’s attempts proved unfruitful due to the Afghan Taliban regime’s continued support for anti-Pakistan terrorist elements.

He remarked that since the Taliban regime bears no responsibility toward the people of Afghanistan and survives on a war-driven economy, it seeks to entangle the Afghan population in unnecessary conflict. Tarar reaffirmed that Pakistan has always strived, advocated, and sacrificed for peace and prosperity in Afghanistan.

He said Pakistan had held numerous rounds of talks and consultations with the Taliban regime, but the latter had remained indifferent to Pakistan’s suffering and losses. After enduring years of immense human and material losses, he said, Pakistan’s patience has reached its limit.

The minister further mentioned that, at the request of the brotherly nations of Qatar and Turkiye, Pakistan engaged with the Afghan Taliban regime first in Doha and later in Istanbul on a single-point agenda — to secure concrete action from the Taliban to prevent the use of Afghan soil by terrorist organizations as training and logistical bases for launching attacks against Pakistan.

He expressed gratitude to Qatar and Turkiye for facilitating the dialogue and making sincere efforts to persuade the Afghan Taliban regime to refrain from employing terrorist proxies as leverage against Pakistan.

Tarar emphasized that Pakistan’s foremost priority remains the security of its citizens.

He assured that the government will continue to take all necessary measures and utilize every available resource to eliminate terrorists, their sanctuaries, their facilitators, and their supporters.
